Teeth Cleanings

In standard teeth cleaning, a dentist or dental hygienist removes soft plaque and hard tartar (mineralized plaque that builds up on the teeth and can only be removed with professional instruments) from above the gum line. Teeth cleaning process requires one office visit and usually takes about 1 hour.

Regular teeth cleanings are imperative in order to prevent Gingivitis, also called gum disease or periodontal disease. Gingivitis starts with bacterial growth in your mouth and may end with tooth loss due to the destruction of the tissue that surrounds your teeth, if not properly treated.

Deep Teeth Cleanings

Deep teeth cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, is a procedure used to treat gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontal disease. This is done by removing plaque and tartar above and below the gum line. Deep teeth cleanings help reduce discomfort, swelling, and bleeding of the gums. The main goal of a professional deep cleaning is to prevent gum disease, which is the primary cause of tooth loss in adults over age 40.

A Sealant is a protective coating that is bonded to a child’s tooth to protect its enamel and prevent decay.

A dental filling is a type of restorative dentistry treatment used to repair damage to the structure of a tooth or teeth. Structural damage can be caused as a result of tooth decay, wear or trauma.

After the removal of a problematic tooth structure, Dr. “B” restores the tooth with composite resin (white filling material that matches your tooth color). The composite material fillings are also used to even out tooth surfaces for better biting or chewing. In many cases, tooth sensitivity caused by enamel loss will be significantly improved or completely eliminated once an appropriate dental filling material is placed.

Please note: at Avalon Dental, we do not use Amalgam fillings, not only because they aren’t aesthetically pleasing, but because they also contain mercury. Also, for mercury fillings, a large predetermined shape is cut into the tooth, removing healthy tooth structure. Modern fillings are much more conservative and preserve the natural tooth.

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements used to counter tooth loss. Dr. Broschinsky works with top oral surgeons using state of the art materials and techniques to recreate your tooth. Today’s implants are virtually indistinguishable from other teeth. This appearance is aided in part by the functional and structural connection between the dental implant and the living bone.

Dental veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material that are applied over the surface of a tooth to cover worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, or cracks or chips. Dental veneers create a bright, white smile with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth.

Bonding is the process of using composite resins to “glue” materials to the surface of a tooth for restorative purposes. Chipped or cracked teeth are typically repaired through bonding. A composite material that matches your tooth color is applied to the surface of a tooth, sculpted into shape, then contoured and polished, making the crack or chip invisible.

Inlays and onlays, also known as indirect fillings, are dental restorations that offer a well-fitting, strong, long lasting reparative solution to tooth decay or similar damage. In certain cases, inlays and onlays are a conservative alternative to dental crowns. During your first visit, Dr. Broschinsky must prepare the damaged tooth. A molded impression of the tooth is then taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where an inlay or onlay is fabricated out of porcelain or pressed ceramic to match your current tooth color. A fitted, provisional inlay or onlay in the shape of the final restoration may be created during this visit to protect the tooth while the final restoration is being fabricated. During your second visit, the provisional temporary is removed and your inlay or onlay is placed.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth with artificial replacements (pontic). The bridge gives the appearance and function of real teeth. During the procedure you are given a local anesthetic so Dr. Broschinsky can prepare the teeth required to support the bridge. If the support teeth are decayed or badly broken down, he may have to build them back up before they can be used as support teeth for a bridge. Next, Dr. Broschinsky takes an impression of the prepared teeth with a putty-like material that is used to create a model of your teeth. That model is then sent to a dental laboratory and fabricated by a skilled lab technician so that it precisely fits the prepared teeth. It is important that your restoration fit perfectly to avoid additional oral health problems such as tooth decay. While your bridge is being fabricated, Dr B. fits you with a temporary bridge so the teeth and gums can be protected from damage until your permanent bridge is ready. To complete the dental bridge procedure, you must return to the dental office for a second and 3rd visit to have the bridge fitted and cemented.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns preserve the functionality of damaged teeth by encasing a needy tooth with a custom-designed material. A dental crown (also known as a “cap”) may be used to protect a cracked tooth, restore functionality of a tooth with excessive decay, or replace a pre-existing crown. First Dr. Broschinsky prepares your tooth and makes a molded impression to send to a dental laboratory.

During this visit, a fitted, temporary crown is created and placed to temporarily protect the tooth while the final restoration is being made. Once completed, the crown is cemented or adhesively bonded at a later visit. Many old crowns are unsightly or have gaps and can easily be replaced with a new natural looking crown to match the rest of your smile.

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth for people with no remaining teeth or for people who have lost several teeth. Today, dentures are designed to be comfortable and functional. They are very similar in appearance to natural teeth and can improve a smile or facial appearance.
